The 6th grade exploratory program in World Languages at FHTMS facilitates the students' discovery of a world outside their own through the exploration of languages and cultures and an introduction to French and Spanish.

The goals of the exploratory program are to introduce the children to the following concepts:

• the nature of language learning and how languages of the world are related
• word formation
• cultures
• the importance of studying a language

In the Spanish Exploratory the students will be exposed to:

• an overview of the history of the Spanish language, people and geography
• Spanish cognates
• Greetings, introductions and saying good-by
• Basic commands using total physical response
• Numbers and basic math in Spanish
• Classroom objects
• Colors
• Body parts
• Clothing
• Hispanic culture:  holidays, family life, and leisure time

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS AND GRADING EVALUATION

Things that I should know about my Spanish class:

Students will be evaluated each day on their

       readiness for instruction and being prepared for class

       classroom participation:  volunteering, asking questions, completing class work

        behavior:  being respectful and focusing on classroom activities

MY GRADE IS DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY MY CAREFUL ATTENTION TO THE ABOVE ITEMS!!!
