3D Field Trips and Team Events 04-05

In
September, students participated in a team building day at North
Beach. We completed team- building exercises, had a picnic lunch
and built sandcastles as teams. |
November
12th, 3D went to Exchange City
in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It is our most
ambitious trip this year. This was the culminating activity for a 4- week social
studies and mathematics curriculum that includes civics, economics, career
opportunities and applied math.
This program invites students to develop their own “city.” They choose and learn about real jobs within a city and prepare for their day at the city. Exchange City is actually a 10,000 square foot warehouse in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, set up for students to “play” city for the day. There is a post office, courthouse, city hall, businesses, etc. and students will prepare for and follow a prescribed set of activities that allows them to see the interaction of government first hand. Junior Achievement and a nonprofit foundation have set up Exchange Cities across the United States for 3rd through 10th graders to learn experientially. We are told Harvard Business School is incorporating a graduate model into their MBA program this year.

We
are attending two shows at the Flynn Center this year in February and May.
We will be attending "The Marriage of Art and Science" and "The Civil War: The South
Carolina Black Regiment." Learn
more about the Flynn Student Matinee Series and these specific shows.
Thursday,
March 17th, 3D students went to the Catamount Center in Williston. We
spent 5 periods of the day sledding, cross country skiing, and snow shoeing (and
of course don't forget throwing snowballs). It was a great community
event. Check back next month to see student reflections and poetry about
the day.
Students are fundraising towards an end of the year trip. We have looked at a trip to Boston, however no decision has been made at this time.
