CAMP WINAPINASKI
By Alisia
"Come on Choley we’re going to miss the bus."
"Coming," said while I dashed to the bus stop as fast as lightning, determined to get there. I got there just in the nick of time. I sat down by myself as usual. When I got off the bus I saw Melanie and her gang of girls.
I strolled slowly pass them.FLOP. Hey you klutz. Watch where you are going next time. You got mud on my 50 dollar boots." "You’re the one who tripped me." "Did not."
"Did too." "Don’t push me Choley Richard." "Don’t blame me for things I didn’t do Melanie Johnson." "Girls stop. Meet me in my office…. Well, get going girls. I have to get rid of the screaming crowd." I stood there in Mrs. Chip’s office glancing over at Melanie when Mrs. Chip came in. "Girls, if it wasn’t the last day of school you’d be in detention for a long time! You are so lucky!" That wasn’t the worst part of the day though. I also ripped my favorite pair of blue jeans; I had to get a late pass; I had to get cheese instead of pepperoni pizza; and I almost missed the bus on the way home. I didn’t know what was coming until I got home.
"Hi mom."
"Hi Choley. Choley?"
"Yeah mom?"
"I got a call from your principal," mom said.
"Oh no!" I thought
"She said you got in a fight with a girl at school. Your father and I don’t want to have to do this but we think this is the best for you. We have decided to send you to camp for the summer."
"For the whole summer?"
"For the whole summer."
"But mom, you can’t. I planned my whole summer out, and now you are saying I have to go to camp. I won’t!" "Choley!"
"Choley time for supper!" "I’m not hungry!" "Well, honey you better get a good night sleep because your father and I are going to drive you to camp first thing in the morning." " I told you I’m not going!" "Oh yes you are." "Chloey wake up. I packed your things in that suitcase over there. All you have to do is eat breakfast and brush your teeth after you get dressed." "Splat! Swish! Swish! Splat" Eww this toothpaste is so gross and milky. Oh my god, this toothpaste expired last month." I can’t believe my mom is going to make go to camp. I mean, come on! " Well, we’re here honey. I hope you have a good time. I got to go. Your father and I are late for a meeting. Bye"
"Whatever." Later on Choley got settled in and found her cabin. Her cabin looked old and crumbly. It was a darkish brownish color like a dirty coffee cup. The door squeaked when you opened it. So did the beds. Plus it smelt weird!
Later that evening something awful happened when Chloey got a call from her mom.
"Mom is something wrong? Mom why are you crying?" "Honey, my mom died, Grandma. She died from a heart attack. Her funeral is the last 2 days of camp. You are going to have to miss them." "Mom can I come home?" "No, sweetie. You have to stay at camp. I’m sorry." She said in-between sobs "Mom please." "No! I… I …can’t…. What…. phone …dead. Bye" "Bye, Dang phone," I said slamming down the receiver. Chloey went back to her cabin and cried all night. A counselor came in and asked if everything was alright. "Go away," said Chloey in a puddle of tears. "Okay, Sorry," The counselor said. At 5:00 A.M. Chloey snuck out and hung out by the lake. When she came back the counselor told her the next time she sneaked out and didn’t tell anyone where she was she would have to go with the counselor everywhere so they could keep an eye on her. "Whatever!" "Young lady, if you don’t cut out that tone and attitude of yours you are going to be sent home! Immediately! Be careful!" Chloey thought for a sec. She really wanted to go home but then her mom would be mad at her. Her mom was under a lot of pressure now so she apologized for her tone and attitude. She went to the bathroom. "Well, well, look what we have here." It was Melanie! " I heard that your Grandma died. I am so sorry. NOT! Your grandma is probably as stupid as you!" "Shut up you jerk." "Make me." Chloley didn’t want to get in another fight so she walked away. Choley could not believe Melanie said that. She went back to her cabin. Molly, one of her cabin mates sat down and said, " I heard that your grandma died. I am sorry. One of my grandmas died, so I know how it feels to lose a loved one. If you want to talk about it you can if you want." "No thanks." "Okay, well bye." "Bye." When Molly left she was thinking how incredibly nice she was. " I think I’m going to get a Popsicle. I love when they drip all over you. They are so good." "Knock, Knock, Knock, Knock, Knock." "Coming." "It was Ally one of Melanie’s friends that was in "the group"
"What are you doing here?"
"I just wanted to apologize for what Mel said."
"Why I thought you agreed with her."
"NO WAY. The only reason why I have to hang out with her is because she is my cousin. My mom would get mad at me if I didn’t."
"Pound,Pound,Pound."
There appeared Melanie in the doorway.
"Ally what are you doing here with Chloey?
She is so juvenile. She is such a loser too.
"Mel be quite. FYI I came here to accept your apology. What you said in the bathroom, it was so mean of you."
"Whatever. Come on lets go."
"No way."
"Fine be that way. You are so not being in our group anymore. Bye losers."
"Wow I thought you said you had to be friends with Melanie."
"Well I guess I can’t because I sort of dissed her. I will just tell my mom what happened. She will understand "
After that happened Choley began to like camp more and more now that she had two new friends. (Ally and Molly). They all had a fun time together. Camp went by so quickly that soon it became the last day for Chloey.
"Bye Chloey. Wright to me and e-mail me."
"Okay. Bye Molly."
"Bye Chloey," said Ally."
"I just wanted to tell you thanks for sticking up for me."
"You’re welcome."
"Call me."
"Okay."
" Oh my god. My parents are all dressed in black. I guess I should have worn more black for the funeral then a black headband.
"Hi Chloey."
"Hi mom."
"Ready to go to…. There was a sudden pause in her voice.
" Yeah mom I’m ready."
" How was camp?"
" I loved it. Thanks for making me go."
"You’re welcome."
"You better hurry up. Adileay and your father are waiting in the car."
" Okay, I’ll be right there.
