Entertainment

Many of the citizens went to public baths or thermaes. These baths were not only common in Pompeii, but in almost all Roman cities. These baths help archaeologists of today understand how furnaces were used to heat water and provide hot air for rooms.

The Amphitheatre of Pompeii was located near the Large paleastra and the gladiator barracks. It could seat thousands of spectators and was a huge source of entertainment for the citizens.

People went to the Amphitheatre to see plays, and gladiatorial fights. Theaters could also be filled with water so two or more ships could battle.
