The Incredible Journey, a Journey Worth Taking

Imagine three house pets traveling across Canada to find their loving family. Along the way they have to dodge dangerous forest animals, worry about starving to death and even risk exposure to the cold and rain.  Well, that's what happened to Tao, Luath, and  Bodger in The Incredible Journey by Shelia Burnford. I enjoyed the book because I like reading stories about animals. I like the way that the author developed the animal's adventures . I also enjoyed reading about the love that the animals and their family shared and how no amount of distance could keep them apart.

One adventure in the story that was action-packed was when they met up on the trail with a half-grown bear cub. Unfortunately, the old terrier named  Bodger had become very ill and had trouble defending himself. The  cat, Tao, sprang onto the back of the bear cub, clawing at his eyes. Suddenly out of the bushes came the mother bear, who took a swipe at Tao, but missed and sent her cub spinning into the bushes. The mother bear was very angry and started towards the old terrier. Then once again Tao advanced towards the bear and the bear retreated from fear of the cat.

It is so amazing that these two dogs and a cat traveled several hundred miles just to find their family. I liked the love and camaraderie that was shown by the animals to each other. Without each other they certainly would not have survived.  The old terrier was determined to make it the whole way even though it was extremely painful for him. Their  love for their family was so strong that nothing could have kept them from finding each other again.

If you enjoy reading stories about animals on great adventures, this is the book for you. You'll be surprised by how smart and creative these animals were in trying to survive. Give this book a try and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
