February Newsletter

February has been a very busy month so far. Students completed their Vermont mammal web page project and have been busy preparing a "Writing to Inform" piece on their social studies topic in ancient cultures. Both of these efforts will be on display, along with their social studies project (remember that?) on Wednesday, February 20. Please come and let students  share with you what they have been doing and what they have learned in their core subjects.

WHAT: Odyssey Project and Technology Fair

WHERE: FHT library and computer lab 166

WHEN: February 20th, 12:45 to 2:00

HOW: There will be 25 students in the library from 12:45 until 1:15 and another 25 in the computer lab. At 1:15 they will trade places and present again from 1:30 until 2:00

On Friday, February 22, we will be going to the Vermont Audubon Center to study winter habitats. Please remember to send your child to school prepared to spend time outside in the cold weather. Hats, gloves, boots, long underwear and warm winter coats are a must. Also, students should bring a bag lunch to eat and something to drink for the class trip. PLEASE SIGN THE PERMISSI0N SLIP ON THE REVERSE SIDE AND RETURN WITH THE $3.50 FEE.

We would like to thank the PTO for providing funding for our artist in residence. We will have a Flynn Theatre teaching artist for four classes during March to help us prepare for our production of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar.

It won’t be long before spring conferences. Each of us has been conferencing with either Alpha or Beta students during the school year. To provide students and parents the opportunity for more in depth conferences, we have adopted a format where  you will meet with one or the other of us, depending upon which group your child is in, Alpha or Beta. This is a format that has been   very successful on other teams and we feel it will benefit Odyssey.. If you need to speak to one of us because of this arrangement, for specific subject area purposes, we will accommodate that requirement at another time or by telephone.
