DAILY LIFE IN ANCIENT EGYPT

Did you ever wonder if Egyptians were just like us? They believed in gods and had festivals because of them. First, check out the entertainment and find they pretty much did the same things as we do. Secondly, look into the geography of their world. Afterward, investigate what their houses were made out of and find out that their houses were made out of bricks, just like ours. Finally, you should check out the religion and find out more on  the gods.

Entertainment in Egypt was much like ours. Adults would invite friends over and play games. For example, they would play games like dice, knuckle bones, checkers, and senet (which is like snakes and ladders). Children would play games like piggy-back, wrestling, and shooting arrows.

However, Egyptians did a variety of things that are shown on  tomb walls. The most important activity and source of relaxation was the Nile River. For instance, they fished on the river, had boat outings, and swam. Also they hunted crocodiles, hippopotamuses, the fox, hare, and the hyena.

Additionally they had festivals, and liked to play music with instruments such as the lute, harp, and lyre. They sang, danced and did acrobatics.

Geography in Egypt includes the Nile River, which is of the greatest importance to them. Egypt is located north eastern region of Africa. Egypt and is bordered on the north of the Mediterranean Sea.

The geography is very important in understanding why the Egyptians centered their life around the Nile. They did this both before and during the use of canal irrigation. Egypt's climate is dry because the Sahara desert crosses the land they live on.

Housing in Egypt was not much different then ours. They were made out of sun-dried mud which is a brick when it is done drying. Shelters were made out of reed. Sun-dried mud is also called adobe. Wood was scarce in Ancient Egypt because they lived in the Sahara Desert.

Most people had furniture consisting of  a stool, small boxes for jewelry and cosmetics, chest for clothing, pottery jars, and oil lamps. Each home was equipped with at least one fly catcher.

Religion in Egypt is very interesting because of their beliefs. They believed in things that we may not believe in. Egyptians believe only magical spirits could control things that they could not control. They always tried to please these spirits, their gods.

Each part of Egypt had their own gods and goddesses that had their own temple. The rulers of Ancient Egypt were called pharaohs. The pharaohs of Egypt were worshipped like their gods. They weren't just worshipped as gods but kings!

The Ancient Egyptian religious beliefs, the forces of nature were identified as supernatural beings who controlled many different things. In other words, the forces of nature became identified with many different gods who represented the many things that Egyptians had to deal with in their every day lives.

In conclusion, Egyptians are really cool and interesting  subject that I learned about. I hope that you learned something about these Egyptians too. I know that I learned something about them studying there entertainment, geography, housing, and religion.
