Book Review

I recently read the book Blue Heron, by Avi. The book is about a thirteen year old named Maggie. Maggie visits her dad, she finds out he is not taking his medicine and gets scared of what will happen to him; but she learns to deal with him. I really enjoyed this book because the author does a good job describing the characters and the feelings that they experience.  I loved the main character and really identified with her. Maggie and I are alike because we both have had difficult times in our lives and we are both  adventuresome and independent.

Maggie is worried about her father's health and the heron that lives in the marsh. She tries to help out her father but he gets very angry at her for reminding him that he is not taking his medicine and he  drives away. If I was Maggie I would have done the same thing because I wouldn't want my father to get hurt. She also tries to help the heron from getting hurt. I would have tried to save the heron from getting hurt because I also think that the heron is very pretty, just like Maggie does. The heron and Maggie's father end up fine in the end. Maggie goes back home to see her mother in Seattle.  My favorite part was when Maggie touched the heron that she had been watching over the few days.

Blue Heron is a great book with a meaningful theme about feelings. I would recommend this book to everyone, all readers and ages.
