Languages, Religion and Government

The language in the Dominican Republic that is usually spoken is Spanish and some people there speak English.

The main religion that is practiced most in the   Dominican Republic is Catholic. Another religion that is used is Voodoo. Voodoo has no centralized church or scriptures. It is informal and is based on a mixture of superstitions that is celebrated through song and dance. Behavior is regulated, not through sin, but by a set of  taboos linked to ancestors. Voodoo is where you make a doll of someone you do not like. You take three pieces of their clothes, a piece of the shirt, pants and sweater. You should take enough so it can fit on your doll. If you want the doll to work you have to put an enchantment on the doll when you finish putting the doll together. You can twist any body part on the doll, if you see the actual person you will see the person do the same thing that you do to the doll.

The Dominican Republic is a democratic country with a constitution much like ours, but the president has a lot more power than our president.
