Book Review

I recently read the book The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman.  This book is about a boy (Will Parry) and a girl (Lyra Silvertounge) who join with numerous characters from many worlds to fight a terrible authority. They win, but pay the price of getting permanently separated from each other.  I really like this book because of the depth of it.

I think there is a lot of feeling as well as depth in this book because it has just the right amount of complexity in it.  What I mean by complexity is that all of the characters know at least one other character.  But most of the relationships are ones that are so subtle, you can rarely tell until they tell you.  This gives the book a mysterious and curious mood, yet a semi-omniscient feeling based on how Pullman gives you information.

I think this book is unbelievably amazing.  Pullman makes the story seem real and vivid in the reader's mind.  So real that the tension couldn't be cut with a knife it is so solid.  I congratulate Pullman on the award-winning job he did and hope you read and enjoy The Amber Spyglass too.
