Held every year during the four days before the Christian observant of Lent, the carnival of Rio de Janeiro symbolizes the lively spirit of the city.  For entertainment the Brazilians do the following: hang gliding, surfing, sailing, fishing, rock climbing, hiking, and futebol (soccer).  Some times they also have a carnival. 
The holidays they celebrate are: on January 1st= New years day,  May 1st= Labor day, July 9th= Civil day, September 7th= Independence day, November 1st=All saints day, December 24th= X-mas eve, December 31st= New years eve1/2 day, and October 12th= Our lady Aperecida day.

The clothing is similar to what wear. In the Northeastern they are known to wear colorful long skirts, bright blouses and a lot of bracelets and necklaces.
