Clothing, Food & Recipes
Nicaraguans wear casual clothes, many just like the ones in the United States. Since it is hot most of the time, most of one's wardrobe consists shorts, shirts, sandals, and blouses usually colorfully made, so that they don't soak up too much of the sun.
Here's a tasty Nicaraguan recipe:
The Gallo Pinto
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 clove fresh garlic, minced or 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
1 cup cooked white rice
1 cup cooked red beans
Heat the oil in the frying pan. Add the onion and garlic, stirring until brown. Then mix in the rice and beans and cool over a medium flame, stirring constantly for 5 to 10 minutes or until the oil is gone and everything is slightly crispy. Add a few drops of hot pepper sauce if you like spicy food. Makes four servings.
