Samara's Book Review
I recently read Bud, not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis. It's about a 10 year old homeless kid, Bud. Bud is on a journey to reach his so called father Herman E. Callaway. In the end he finds out Herman isn't his father, he's his grandfather. Herman finds out his daughter Janet is dead. I think it is a dramatic book.
I really enjoyed this book because it is very exciting and adventurous. Bud goes through a lot in this book. He lost his mom when he was four. She was very sick. He is on his way to finding who he thinks is his father. He goes from Flint, to Flint Hoover Ville, back to flint, then he goes all the way to Grand Rapids, Michigan, on foot. It's a dramatic book, with people crying, people dying, and people living on false hope, you know it will have a sad ending. This book has a sad, but joyful ending. It is sad because Herman's phony beliefs are corrected with heart breaking news. But the ending is joyful because Bud finally finds a home that happens to be with his grandfather and the band. It's exciting because in this book you really want to know what is going to happen next.
I would recommend this book to others if they like exciting, adventurous, sad, and dramatic books. This book is filled with all of those traits. It is much like other books and movies people like us see and read every day. Christopher Paul Curtis adds a little kick to with dramatic, and joyful seines where you wouldn't think they would be. I loved this book and I know you will to.
