The traditional sport played in Uruguay is soccer. They say boys are born with a strong talent for soccer. 

Women in Uruguay have had a longer legal protection and rights then women in Brazil and Argentina.

Boys and girls have the right to educate, but under financial needs, families choose the boys over girls because boys could get better jobs then the boys.

Compadrazgo (cohm-pah-DRAHZ-go) God parent hood- Parents choose a man and a woman to help there child through the stages of life. They help the children with schooling, finding a job, and starting there own family. In return, the children will vote the way the godparents vote as a show of loyalty whenever asked.

There is no formal dress in Uruguay although people tend to wear matching out fits when dancing, or playing the tango on drums in a street parade.

 

Holidays
  • Epiphany (Catholic Christmas)
  • Carnival (40 days before Easter, linking to the catholic holiday "Lent")
  • Semana Criolla (tourism week, remembrance of cultural past)
  • Fiesta del Mar (Festival of the sea)
