In the 1500s European settlers discovered Uruguay's territory. People living there were broken up into three groups; Chana, Guarani, and Charrua. European Spaniards took over the land and now there are no more indigenous descendants. Since the Spaniards spoke Spanish, and  people who were born there are descendants of European Spaniards, there main language spoken is Spanish!

The main religion in Uruguay is Catholic. There are other religions there as well, including protestant, Jewish, and Christianity.
Uruguay has managed to contain a republic government consisting of a strong president aided by a vice-president and a 12 member council of ministers in the executive branch. The legislative branch includes a bicameral congress with checks and balances, 30 elected representative senates, and 99 elected representatives in the chamber of deputies. There are 5 members in the supreme court and 224 lower courts consisting of 3 judges per courts in the judiciary court.
