Weather,
Geography and People
| The weather in Uruguay is fairly hot. The coldest it gets is about 42º F, and that's in July, the height of winter. The hottest time of the year is January. Temperatures raise to 82º F or higher. There is rain, but Uruguay doesn't have a rainy season like Vermont does. You better hold on to your hat because winters and springs are characterized by high winds. |

Uruguay may be a small state but that doesn't
mean it isn't full of surprises. Uruguay is a coastal state. (it borders
the Atlantic Ocean) The majority of the land is grass lands and plains. The
land is used for raising cattle and (most popularly) sheep on large
ranches. Only 2-3% of the land consists of forests. I wonder what they use
for building materials? Don't think of it as a flat piece of paper because
Uruguay is covered with many hills, big and small.
Uruguay is sandwiched between Argentina, Brazil, and the Atlantic Ocean. Generally, it is located in the lower right hand corner of South America. |
| What is the population you say? Uruguayans add
up to a modest amount of 3.1 billion people. Many of which live in there
capital Montevideo.
There are no more decedents of indigenous Uruguayans. 88% of Uruguay's Population are decedents of European settlers. Those Uruguayans are broken up in to two groups, those from Spain, and those from Italy. Mestizos ("may-STEE-sohs) are decedents of marriages between Indians and Spaniards in the colonial times. They make up 8% of the population. And last but not least, 4% of the population is made up of African decedents. They are decedents of slaves from brought over from Africa in the 1800's, and early 1900's. |
