Darkness of Night

    "Arrooooooooo!"

Ray woke up with a jerk. What was that? Ray wondered. For a second, Ray thought it was a wolf, but then he remembered what his parents had said. "The only dangerous things in this forest are the birds." Ray wondered if his parents had heard the noise, but then a deafening snore told him they hadn’t.

Ray was a strong, athletic person. He was nearly famous at his school, even the teachers admired him! But Ray wasn’t feeling to famous right now. He got out of bed to glance at his alarm clock.

"Arrooooooooo!" Ray tripped over his boom box and landed on the floor with a THUMP! Ray ignored the pain. The noise, he had heard it again. Except it was louder this time, closer. Finally, after another five minutes, curiosity got the best of him. Ray grabbed a baseball bat and a flashlight from under his bed. Then he found his backpack and put them inside. Next, he grabbed some clothes and a jacket, and walked down the dark hall and out the door.

It was a chilly night. Ray was glad he had put on his coat. He walked shakily through the dew-covered grass [it had just rained an hour or two ago] down to the edge of the forest. It was pitch black inside the forest, so he took out his flashlight and turned it on. Ray was wicked scared, but he was so curious as to what the noise was that he didn’t care. Without even knowing what he was doing he stepped into the forest.

It was warmer in the forest than it was in the open. This was what he was glad about. He started to walk, but stopped suddenly. He knew he had heard a noise. CRACK!!! Ray spun around. Nothing. Nothing? But I just came into the forest, Ray thought so he looked all around. His house was nowhere in sight. CRACK, CRUNCH, CRACK!!!! Noises were coming from all around him.

"Who’s there!?" Ray shouted. Then he saw them, huge wolfs were circling around him. They were really close. All of a sudden, they all pounced. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!" Ray screamed.             "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!"

    "Ray? Raaaaaay?"

    "Huh?" Ray asked groggily.

"You were screaming in your sleep," said his mother's voice. Ray opened his eyes and sat up in his waterbed. "Maybe it’s those horror movies you’ve been watching," said his mom.

    "Yeah, maybe."

"Well, I’m going back to bed." And with that she left the room. Well, at least it was all a dream, Ray thought. Then he heard it. "Arrooooooooo!!"
