Sean Language Arts 11/15/02 Halo It’s 0500 hours. My name is John Scheck. I am in a Special Forces army and I am the last hope for earth. I once had a life, but that was before the war began against the alien race known as The Covenant. I was recruited young and trained to kill. "Do you want to die in the mud soldier?!?!?" "Heck no chief!" Randy, Nitro, Scottie, and me were fleeing the enemy on the alien world Halo. We were escaping in a Warthog (a jeep with lifter kits which are used to beef up the shocks and a .50 cal. machine gun turret). Randy was working the turret, Scottie was passenger side. I was driving while Nitro was trying to keep alive. Nitro caught a terrible plasma burn on his chest. We turned the corner and found a little ambush situation. "HOLEY SMOKES!…" None of them had a chance. The plasma cannon did a real number on us. Nitro had a heart attack, Randy was fried instantly. I believe Scottie was thrown off and shredded by our studded tires. I navigated throughout the jungle. As I did I lost the Covenant and found the city. Alone. My heart raced as I entered the alien city. I ditched my Warthog and slipped past minor guards. I heard some shuffling and I stopped. I heard some alien gibberish from the corner. " Og Og, snialp eht no lessev dnal namuh a dnuof ew!" I couldn’t tell what they were saying, but it was the way they said it that got me. I dived into the manhole across the street. It was so dark. I used the flashlight duck-taped to my M4- M203 assault rifle (it also has a grenade launcher on the bottom). My assault rifle also had a GPS system upgraded onto it. That helped me get around the sewers fine. As I turned the corner I was greeted with more alien tongue. "Mih teg! Si eh ereht!" When I dove to the side my flashlight battery failed, but I could still see because of the trigger-happy aliens blasting away their plasma pistols. I dove down and started to shoot. "Won mih teg!!" "DIE!!" *D-D-D-D-D-D* Problem solved. It turned out that there were two of them. "Grunts" they call them. They looked like a cross between a turtle and a monkey. Luckily, the dumb things were standing one behind the other. I still couldn’t believe this mission. The Sarge wanted my squad to recover a R.I.B (Rapid Info Byte) that he and military intelligence THINK shows where the alien infestation is coming from. But he’s the captain, he gives you an order, you obey it. That’s how it is. " Wait a minute!!" At that moment I realized it! After all these years of wondering I cracked the code! That was it. I phoned chief to tell him the good news. ****KFHTFK**** "This is Sergeant Colonial Hikks, go ahead John." " Sir I’ve figured it out!" " What are you talking about soldier?" "The alien language!" "Well, out with it, soldier!" "Just program translators to read it backwards." "Good work soldier. Too bad you don’t have a translator so you could test it. Chief out." ****KFFKHGT**** I came up out of the sewers right in back of two more grunts. I ran inside as quick as I could, as quiet as I could. They didn’t see me so I started to look around the alien base. I start to walk forward but I heard shuffling from a corridor and small sounds so I dodged into a parallel hall and run fast but quiet. I turned around and I'm looking into a huge hanger with intricate gold etchings on the walls. In the center of the room there is a table with… The R.I.B. I run up and I’m about to call Sarge and report my position when the walls open up. Soon I'm staring at a new breed of alien. It’s about 8 feet tall and is plated with blue thick steel. On its arm is a huge supercharged plasma cannon. He smacked me across the room. I started to feel dizzy but a bit of extra strength helped me up. I knew that aliens were not the brightest, but this guy was really stupid. He threw me right next to the table with the R.I.B. on it. I grabbed the RIB and bolted out the window. I raced across the city with Covenant hot on my trail. There was Sarge in his chopper above the canopy. He threw a rope ladder down and I grabbed on. I stumbled up the ladder but as I did I caught a plasma bolt on my side. It was very painful but I still had strength to pull myself up. I gave Sarge the RIB, he gave me a gold star to pin on my mess-dress jacket, and I lived on to keep fighting.
