"You're wrong mother"
"Elizabeth you're naive, have you no idea what they are doing to witches these days?"
"If I do not become a witch, mother that terrible vampire king will feed on the towns- people. No one but a witch can stop him."
"When your father died, Elizabeth that vampire king provided us with this beautiful castle," Her mother pleaded trying to make her understand.
"Only because he knew of grandmother's power and then he burned her at stake for trying to help the poor townspeople. I am going to do as beloved grandmother instructed, I will be trained to be a witch by great Aunt Buffy."
"No you won't," her mother threatened. But Elizabeth had already made up her mind; she was out the door and headed for the dark forest.
Her eyes were hot with tears and anger while she bit her lip to keep from crying. She arrived at the garden before realizing she was shivering. Looking down on the frosted flowerbeds she realized she was still in her bedclothes, yet it didn't matter what she looked like, she was leaving the life of beautiful clothes. Her mind was made up. She ran to the stable where her beautiful horse Mystic stood. Mystic was a gift from grandmother and was the only thing Elizabeth would bring with her.
Elizabeth stopped in front of the dark eerie forest. It was as though someone had taken the forest from a storybook and placed it in front of her. She held her breath; not moving a muscle, thinking that if she moved, all the scary, frightening things she ever dreamed of would jump out at her. Nothing would hurt her, she thought positively, but she had Mystic run just in case. Unlike Mystic, Elizabeth had no idea what lie ahead. Grandmother had taught Mystic exactly how to get to Great Aunt's Castle. It wasn't an hour until Mystic stopped at a huge ugly castle in the clearing of the woods.
"You must be mistaken, Mystic," Elizabeth whispered.
"Mystic is a trained horse, she is definitely not mistaken," said a cheerful voice from a plump woman with red flowing hair.
"You are here Elizabeth, I had no doubt you'd come, you're grandmother promised you would. How rude of me, I am your Great Aunt Buffy, come on inside, do you mind if I call you Lizzy?"
For many months Elizabeth memorized ingredients, made potions, and studied famous wizards. She loved every minute of her education, it was entertainment for her.
"Now it's time for you to find a plan to get into the castle, but remember that vampire king can smell magic," Aunt Buffy said one morning over breakfast. "I suggest, Lizzy you go outside or in the forest to look for ideas," she said as she drank something bubbling out of her glass. It must have been unexpected, because her face turned a weird shade of lavender. Elizabeth followed the directions carefully, and went to the stable to get Mystic. Mystic was excited to see her. She put on a shawl and climbed on the horse for her trot through the woods. She didn’t see anything for about thirty minutes, but after a while she saw a little boy with rags for clothes.
"Please may I have something to eat?" The boy asked weakly.
"Of course," she replied as she pulled out the lunch she packed for herself.
"Oh, thank you," the boy said.
"Who are you?" Asked Elizabeth.
"I am a servant of the king yet, he feeds me nothing."
Elizabeth went straight back to the castle and ran to find Aunt Buffy. When she walked in Aunt Buffy was eating.
"Calm yourself Lizzy,’’ said Aunt Buffy seeing her excitement
"But I have an idea."
Elizabeth sat down opposite Aunt Buffy.
"I will dress up like the King's servant to get into the castle. When day arises I will find his coffin, and he will be gone by nightfall."
"Brilliant Lizzy, lets get started."
They sewed rags together and made an apron, and in the pocket was a gun with silver bullets, garlic, and a cross around her neck. They grabbed their coats and were about to leave when Aunt Buffy slipped hers back on the wooden knob.
"What are you doing?" asked Elizabeth, "It’s going to be cold."
` "I’m sorry Lizzy the King might not suspect you but he will suspect me."
They hugged for awhile. Elizabeth felt her heart in her throat and her eyes welled up with tears, she swallowed it down, she felt it would be immature to cry.
"I’m sure you’ll be fine, good luck!"
When Mystic stopped in front of the castle all of her plans disappeared. She told Mystic to stay knowing she wouldn’t disobey. She went up to the gate ready to make an excuse to the guard, but the guard saw her and he immediately thought she a servant. When she entered she wondered how to find the kings coffin.
"Excuse me sir, I’m supposed to clean the outside of the coffin. The king is expecting me." She lied to the guard.
"He never told me, you’ll have to wait until tonight."
But just in time, the servant boy she met in the woods recognized her he said, "he notified me that she was coming."
They showed her into a long dark room. When they shut the door she immediately opened the coffin. The king sat up!
Buffy senesced something wrong "Lizzy is going to be fine, she thought, there’s nothing to worry about. What have I done, she said to herself after a minute. I let her go when she wasn’t ready, she is only a girl." Buffy went straight into the woods.
"What do you think your doing?" said the vampire sitting up. Elizabeth was so scared it took her a minute to see the knife enclosed tightly in his hand.
"I could call my guards, but I’ll handle you myself. Trying to be brave like your grandmother, are you! Well look where that got her!" He said nastily, with a sneer across his face.
"Well she was better off then you are, and you can’t get me I’ve got garlic, a cross and sliver bullets." After she said it she still didn’t feel very reassured.
"There are things I can do about that!"
"He’s just trying to scare me," she thought bravely.
He lifted his hands slowly, and dramatically, over his head. What seemed to be one thousand bats swooped overhead. They bit off her garlic, ripped off her cross, and ruined her bullets.
Just outside Great Aunt Buffy reached the castle. She hastily dismounted walked towards the castle, the guards immediately thought she to was a servant. She, without using magic for risk of waking the king, followed her senses around the castle.
Elizabeth was horrified as she ran towards the door, the king shut it as soon she reached it.
"You stupid girl, sneered the king watching her fear with joy. "Now you will suffer just like your grandmother," he said in a deep thundering voice.
He came towards her with the knife, she would have used all the magic she learned, but she was frozen with fright.
Buffy’s senses told her to stop at the door, she burst in and the sight was terrifying. Lizzy was backing up towards the wall, the King’s knife was pointed at her neck. There was nowhere to hide, she backed into a corner, she closed her eyes tightly just when he struck her in the throat. As she was slipping out of consciousness her fear was slipping away and she thought she saw a smiling figure that looked just like grandmother! Before she was fully unconsciousness she heard some mumbled words and saw the kings body hit the ground with a loud thump; suddenly a blur of purple fire rose up around him, but vanished as soon as it had come leaving behind only ashes. Buffy pointed her finger and said, "Zimboni!"
It was to late, she was dead but her spirit would linger in this world.
Lizzy's ghost ruled England with Aunt Buffy for many happy years, and witches were never burned again. Everyone was happy, except for Elizabeth's unsupportive mother who was haunted forever.
