December

Greetings from the Odyssey Team,

We would like to wish all students, parents and extended Odyssey family the best for the Holiday Season. Congratulations to our chorus members who, in the holiday spirit, performed for all of the middle school lunches on December 16th.

  • Thanks to Aaron, Maria, Mitch and Nicole S. for playing their clarinets at a recent team meeting. They played flawlessly though they only began playing their instruments in September.

  • Also thank you to Rachel and Rebecca who allowed Mr. Wight to share their recently completed stories with the entire team.

In the classroom:

  • In math students continue to wrestle with geometric concepts. Presently they are working with understanding the intricacies of triangles.

  • In science, students have been learning about classifying with taxonomic keys. After learning about classification through jelly beans and their stuffed animals, students are applying their skills to more scientific categories.

  • In LA students are reading Mary Pope Osborne's version of The Odyssey. They are writing a Response to Literature about the hero, Odysseus, and investigating setting.

  • In SS we are studying ancient Greece. Students are completing a technology project with the Inspiration program and  learning to write structured responses. January will bring a re-creation of the trial of Socrates.

We are excited to introduce to the Odyssey family our two new student teachers who will be with us starting after the holidays. Both student teachers are from Champlain College. Ms. Heather Caisse is from Chesterfield, New Hampshire and has looked forward to becoming a teacher for as long as she can remember. Mr. Peter Koutroulis is from Southern Maine and looks forward to completing technology projects with the Odyssey students. We're excited to have them both. They have been in our classrooms during periods one and two, two days a week, for about a month. After the new year they'll be here every day.
