February brought a lot of activity and success to the Odyssey Team. On the 15th and 16th we staged our production of William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. Students did a wonderful job of preparation and the performance was great. Thanks to the parents who helped us in the production and those that fed us beforehand. On the 18th we went to the Vermont Audubon Center in Huntington and learned about winter tracking of Vermont mammals. Students have been working on mammal web page projects, and this trip brought it to life for many of them. We were lucky to have fresh snow just before so there were great tracks. In LA students are beginning to write a research paper on a topic based in the middle ages. These papers will serve as the basis for a documentary film they will create in social studies. The film project begins on March 21, after our study of the Byzantine Empire. Students recently completed a time travel brochure which took them back to ancient Rome. In math students are working on decimals, percents and fractions. Unit test on March 4. Finally, in the core areas, in science students are wrapping up their web page projects and getting ready to study insects under the watchful eye of our student teacher Ms. Caisse.
Don't forget, April 6th and 7th are parent/student/teacher conferences. Mr. McGowan will conference with the Beta families and Mr. Wight with the Alpha families.
