The Unexpected.

I had hit the ground hard. As I struggled to lift my icy face I could see her speed down the mountain that she had never skied. I couldn’t feel my nose, ears, lips, anything. My face was almost as cold as the snow that I was now sprawled on. I was humiliated. The fact that my own little sister had beaten me for the second time today was unthinkable .I had practiced both racetracks. I couldn’t think about it anymore. I dropped my already icy face back into the frozen snow and waited. I was mortified.

We were on the gondula when it all began. At first it was silent because we were on our own for the ride up. But then she broke the silence when she finally asked in the sweetest voice she could make “Lui, would you like to race me down the race track?” I couldn’t believe that she wanted to race me down the mountain. We hadn’t even set a ski on the new winter snow, and she already thought she could beat me in a race. Last year, I thought she learned her lesson when she lost every race we had against each other. But of course I replied, “you bet!”

When we got off the gondula I then made my first of many mistakes. I asked Chloe if she wanted to race me down the mogal trail. I thought that since I had beaten her last year that I would easily beat her in this race no problem. Well I was wrong. When we arrived at the top of the trail, I said “ go on three ok” she replied “ok”. “One, two, three go!” We were off like bullets. I took an early lead and looked back, and lost my balance. Not falling, but enough to loose my lead. I lost. I should have known. Last year she was better than I was in mogals. I guess I had forgotten.

When I finally caught up with her. She was acting like nothing happened; it was really getting on my nerves. I couldn’t stand the fact that she had beaten me and she wasn’t saying anything, I know I would. It felt as if she was rubbing it in my face and not even saying one word. I was beginning to see that she was trying to psych me out by getting ahead of me, and making big swerves. Then getting in front. I couldn’t take it any more. I sped up and got ahead of her. There was no way she could catch up to me now. I was a lot faster than she was.

It came the time were we arrived at the racetrack. About one minute later Chloe arrived. The gatekeeper asked me if I had three bucks. My heart sank. All my fears went away, for a minute. I didn’t have three dollars. And since we couldn’t race, I couldn’t lose. But than my little sister ruined it all. She then took out the money that dad had given her for extra fun. But she only had two dollars. She reminded me of my money that dad also gave me. I handed the man the money and he counted it up. Ok the gatekeeper said.

“Go on three on three. One, two, three go!” We were off faster than we’ve ever gone. I again took an early lead.  I decided to have some fun and take a jump. I leapt off it like I was a bird in the sky. I had never gone that high before. And than I started to come down. It seemed like I was up for a long time. I mean, I had time to think about a lot of things, but just when I was in the middle of my thoughts touched base hard. My faced drove right into the snow, my whole body following close behind. As I lifted my almost frozen head I saw her go. A put my head back into the frozen snow and waited.  But than I realized I wasn’t going to get anywhere by pouting. Although 3 people have asked if I was ok couldn’t just sit there. I had to except my defeat.  I got up, and rode back down. As I was returning to the lodge I was it felt like something in my hand was broken.. As I skied I felt my face getting colder. As I approached Chloe I was surprised that she wasn’t cocky at all. All she asked is if I was ok. I than realized that she didn’t care about winning. She just wanted to have fun.
