Ruby Holler
Book Review by Karolina
I just finished reading Ruby Holler by Sharon Creech. It is about two orphaned twins, Dallas and Florida, who live in an orphanage owned by an un-kind couple, the Trepids. But then, Dallas and Florida get adopted by an eccentric old couple....and they figure it's not so bad. However, they must decide between leaving the couples home in Ruby Holler in order to find their mother, or stay in the pleasant, calm Ruby Holler with Tiller and Sairy. I really liked this story because of all the different characters and detail the author puts into the story. It's one of those books that is hard to put down because it is very suspenseful, and it has many twists.
I especially liked the character Florida, a spunky, tough girl who speaks her mind and hates being bossed around (especially by her brother, Dallas.) The things she says and the way she thinks about things makes her different from most people I've ever met. Florida speaks her mind and she is a tough character. Not only is she tough and spunky, but she is kind, too. She is always trying to comfort her brother, and sometimes it's the other way around. Florida relies on Dallas to be there when she needs him, and he expects the same from her.
I think that people who like realistic mysteries would really enjoy Ruby Holler because of the plot and all the twists that the author (Sharon Creech) puts in. The characters, the setting and the whole point of the story is great, and I definitely recommend it to any person. The reading is not that advanced, so most people can read it. Ruby Holler is a wonderful book that is easy to enjoy, and perfect to read any time.
