Bud Not Buddy
A book review by Kelsey
I recently read Bud Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis. Its a story about a ten year old kid named Buddy, but who highly prefers to be called Bud. When Bud was six, his mother died, so he's been at the orphanage for about four years now; he keeps going back and fourth between being at the orphanage and somebody's home. Sadly, nobody really liked Bud. One day, Bud was sent to the Amoses. The Amoses treated him poorly, and thought he was a mean kid because the kid who lived there kept blaming Bud on everything, even though it really was him who did it. One night, the Amoses locked Bud into a dark, damp, scary shed, with blocked out widows so that Bud couldn't ever get out! But soon, through lots of bruises, cuts, and bumps Bud got his way out of the shed! On his trip, Bud decided not to go back to the orphanage but to go see his dad, who he never remembered meeting before. His dad is also a famous musician, he plays the biggest instrument Bud has ever seen and it would be so cool to meet him! But as it turned out, some things happened unexpectedly, but it does pay off in the end! I liked this book a lot, it was definitely a page-turner! There's lots of funny and exiting things that happened!
There are lots of plots in this book. Its exciting, surprising, funny, a little bit of everything! It because it funny because of the main character, Bud! His attitude and imagination is creative and funny. Like the way he talks to adults, he always is saying yes ma'am, or no ma'am, or yes sir, no sir. He ends everything with sir and ma'am. At least we know his mother taught him to be very polite around adults!
Bud Not Buddy is a great book, I recommend it for and type of readers who like exciting, funny books with some other bits-and-pieces of plots thrown in!
