Creating a web
page is a complex, multi tiered project. It requires planning, thinking,
synthesis, writing, design and technology skills. Therefore, it'll take time (
weeks for us).
If creating a
team web site, the first project needs to be a simple one. Use this as your
opportunity to create folders and teach skills. A simple book review page is our
standard.
Put on each page that it is
"under construction." There is no way to be sure that every error is
fixed.
If you are creating a team web
site, it is essential that the kids do it. You may not like their background
selection, but you need to live with it unless it is truly offensive.
Kids love web pages. When designing a
project, though, have them use one page with "bookmarks" instead of
multiple linked pages.
Think hard ahead of time about how much word processing is involved in your
project, this takes a lot of time and isn't always necessary for a successful
project.
If time is a little limited,
use a pre-made template which includes tables and standard text which needs to
be included. This saves having to teach these particular skills at that time.
Make sure all kids have a web folder on
their drive where the projects reside. ALSO, mandate file names so
you aren't hunting and pecking when assessing.
A team web site is a very unifying
project. Great for parent communication.
