Odyssey Newsletter

May

Greetings to all of our Odyssey families! We apologize for the lateness of the newsletter, the middle school printers were down for a while and it interfered with production. Below you’ll find some information on the remainder of the year. Before sharing those details, many thanks to those who helped with our production of Julius Caesar. The students did a wonderful job and it concluded a very productive literature unit on the play. Thanks also to those who attended; performing for an appreciative audience is a key part of the drama experience. If you have friends or family out of the area, they can see photos of the performance on our team web site. If your son or daughter's picture is not there it is probably because you did not to grant permission to place their photo on the web. We can provide you with digital files if you would like to see them.

MONTREAL

Our Montreal trip was a great success. Many thanks to our parent chaperones.

BUTTON BAY

On June 12th and 13th we are taking the team for an overnight camping trip to Button Bay State Park. We will be staying in the park's "lean to's." This will bring closure to our water quality/Lake Champlain unit and provide a way of celebrating our year together. We will leave the middle school Wednesday morning (which is the middle school activity day) and return mid day Thursday in time for dismissal. We will need a few adult chaperones, if you're game, give us a call.

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES

During the last several weeks we have been doing an interdisciplinary unit on water quality and Lake Champlain. We will focus on the City of South Burlington's impact on the watershed and the competing needs of the environment and the economy. We will do some water quality testing, a case study and write a persuasive piece.

SUMMER READING

We will have a student-generated summer reading list on our web site by June 10th. Students will have an opportunity to list their favorite books from this year with a brief comment. Log on during the summer for recommendations. We’ll have books that are appropriate for 5th through 8th graders.
