Thanks for stopping by, I think you'll love some of these stories. These stories were written independently by 11 year old authors. Adult involvement in their development and writing involved coaching and encouragement, but not any re-writing or re-working (except editing). Students were permitted to develop their own plots, characters and settings. These are emerging writers, and all of them shine in places and have momentary lapses in fluency. The criteria that we used are contained in the Vermont Narrative Writing Rubric, which seeks a coherent sequence of events, with vivid language and narrative techniques such as dialogue. I tried to get the students to drive the stories through character development instead of just plot, and succeeded in some instances. These pieces were generally deemed to meet "intermediate" sixth grade writing with a few "accomplished" pieces. Enjoy them, if you would like to compliment an author, send it to my email address. Also, if you like these and would like to read more, go to last years' site which can be reached from our entry page. Bill Wight Click
