| The Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum at FHT Middle School focuses on Foods and Nutrition at the seventh grade level. Students spend thirty hours of class time learning about nutrition topics and consumer skills and are involved in several food preparation labs. Much of the class is experiential and expands on current knowledge and enhances interest in these food-related topics. Students learn to make choices for good health and fit nutritious meals and snacks into their busy schedules. They learn to be competent consumers to get the most nutrition, quality and flavor for their money when buying food. Students learn to work in small teams in the kitchen safely and efficiently to prepare a variety of foods. Hopefully, some of what students learn in this exploratory class extends into their homes and experiences outside of the classroom so that they and others can become healthier people. |
