Important Immunization Requirements for SBSD Enrollment

To ensure a safe and healthy school environment, an official immunization record is required for all students upon admission.

Vaccinations are the most effective way to protect against serious and sometimes life-threatening diseases. Many of these diseases, like measles and chickenpox, are highly contagious and can lead to outbreaks. Vaccines are especially important for protecting vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.

In accordance with Vermont’s School Entry Immunization Rule, students must meet minimum immunization requirements for public and independent schools:

Required Vaccinations

5 doses of DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis) vaccine
4 doses of polio vaccine
2 doses of MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine
3 doses of hepatitis B vaccine
2 doses of varicella (chickenpox) vaccine
- If the student has previously had chickenpox disease, no vaccine or exemption is needed. Parents must submit documentation of disease or sign the Health Department form.

For 7th Grade Entry:

In addition to the above vaccines, students must provide documentation of a Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) booster.

For New Students:

Students transferring from outside their previous supervisory union or district must meet these immunization requirements.

Students who do not meet these requirements must follow the CDC’s catch-up immunization schedule.

Exemptions:

Medical and religious exemptions to vaccines are permitted. Exemption forms must be signed and submitted to the school upon enrollment. Religious exemptions must be renewed annually. Students with exemptions may be temporarily excluded from school if there is an outbreak of a vaccine-preventable disease.
